Wexham Cup attracts top quality

Bulls from some of the world’s top cow families were out in force at this year’s Western Holstein Club bull show and sale, incorporating the Wexham cup award.

This is presented annually to the bull which gains the most points on inspection and on its combination of ETA for weight of fat and protein and its sire’s type merit and dam and grand dam’s classification.

 

Top seller at 4,100gns was Sterndale Giovanni from W. J. Nadin and Co., Earl. It was tapped out as the reserve champion bull on inspection by judge Tomos Davies of the Carmathern based Rhydygors herd. This Arvis son was purchased by Breeze Farms, Pembrokeshire.

 

At 3,800gns next was the champion bull on inspection, Wodmarsh Contract, from Mick Gould, Shrewsbury. A Woodmarsh Contrast son, it is backed by 12 generations of VG/EX dam lines and sold to J. E. Seals and Son, Derbyshire.

At 3,600gns was the Wexham Cup winner, this year awarded to Peak Arv Royale from Y. K. Bradbury, Earl Sterndale. Another Arvis son and from 13 generations of straight excellent cows, it was purchased by the judge, Mr Davies.

 

Two more consignments from Mr Gould followed at 2,900gns. This was for Woodmarsh Memphis, followed by the Wexham Cup reserve champion , Woodmarsh Leadman.
