After she was taken to Cumberland Infirmary by ambulance, a Kentdale First Aid spokesman said: "It was a bad break to the young woman’s arm, which had unfortunately twisted during the arm wrestling competition."

"Because we are trained paramedics we were able to make the young person comfortable and administer the correct treatment until the ambulance arrived.

"We also treated the other young lady taking part in the competition after she fainted. We attend many events like this, including the county’s shows."

He added: "Other than that, the day was fantastic. It ended with a dance which 600 people attended and we were on site until 1.30am."

More than 800 young farmers from 15 clubs from north and west Cumbria demonstrated their skills in stockjudging to tractor handling, and bale stacking to tug-of-war.
