Eamon Monaghan, 24, won a £10,000 grant to deliver drugs and alcohol awareness sessions to YFCs in his county.
A Young Farmer who secured £10,000 to deliver drugs and alcohol awareness sessions to his fellow YFC members has won The National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs (NFYFC) Senior Member of the Year Award.
Eamon Monaghan, 24, Cumbria Federation’s county chairman and member of Skelton YFC, was awarded the grant from Cumbria Community Foundation and will deliver sessions to YFC members in the county for the next three years.
The project works in partnership with The Well Communities, a not-for-profit community service provider specialising in supporting people with addictions and mental health issues.
Mr Monaghan said: “In modern day society it is a very naïve attitude to think that drugs are not around you and it is important that everyone is aware of the effects and how to deal with them.
“It is important that County Federations take a pro-active stance against drug and alcohol abuse.”
Mr Monaghan was presented with the Senior Member of the Year Award, supported by Tama, at its final in Leamington Spa on Sunday (May 12).
Judge Bryce MacKellar said: “Eamon took some difficult decisions with issues that were affecting his county and he did something about it instead of just pushing it under the carpet.”
