Head Gardener - Live Out - A092

£35,000 - £40,000 DOE

Oxfordshire, United Kingdom

A very attractive opportunity has arisen for a Head Gardener to take primary control of a stunning private estate in Turville Heath, Henley-on-Thames. The position would suit an experienced and qualified Head/Senior Gardener with excellent horticultural knowledge, demonstrable garden management and supervisory experience. The traditional English country garden consists of several formal gardens covering 5 to 6 acres, located within a wider 56 acres in Henley-on-Thames. The successful applicant will be responsible for the formal, walled, sunken and kitchen gardens, cut flowers, soft fruits and large greenhouse as well as a range of garden machinery. Candidates should have experience with each of the above and be dedicated gardeners with the willingness to undertake additional garden estate duties, (i.e. management of irrigation, general soft landscape management and the provision of assistance to the live-in maintenance person with setting up garden furniture) when required. Applicants should also be confident and skilled in pruning methods, i.e. of wisteria and roses, be physically fit with good horticultural knowledge and plant identification skills. The ideal candidate will possess a recognised academic horticultural qualification and well-rounded experience as a Senior/Head Gardener in a private estate setting. Applicants should hold a full driving licence, your own transport for commuting to and from site and ideally, spray tickets (PA1/PA6). A chainsaw licence would be beneficial. The role would suit someone who is hard-working, flexible and methodological in their work with a positive attitude and a diplomatic approach to staff direction and supervision. The property owners are enthusiastic and involved in garden developments and will therefore expect regular updates in relation to your planned work and progress. This is a great opportunity for a passionate Head Gardener looking for a rewarding role on a beautiful private estate, working for interested and friendly clients.
