Prime Minister Boris Johnson has thanked farmers for their ’incredible work’ in keeping the nation fed throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the video shared on social media for the NFU’s 2021 conference, Mr Johnson recognised the past year had not been at all easy for anyone in the farming sector with poor weather and the challenges of the pandemic.
"The first thing I want to say is a heartfelt thank you for keeping the nation fed," Mr Johnson said.
"This crisis has tested us all, but it has also, I think, brought a new and wider appreciation of the incredible work that you do, that the farming world, that farmers do everyday and in all weathers."
Mr Johnson added it was time to embrace a ’new modern age for farming’ which builds on high quality produce made to a high standard while harnessing all that farming can do to protect nature and tackle climate change ahead of COP26 in Glasgow this November.
I want to thank farmers for keeping the UK fed throughout the pandemic.
