CropTec 2016: Boost yields with spring P and K

The work shows an even bigger yield advantage over previous trial work completed by Niab, which suggested an average yield increase of 0.3t/ha.

Allison Grundy of CF Fertilisers said: “Initial trial results are showing yields in wheat can be improved by up to 1t/ha by applying P and K alongside N and S in the spring rather than as a separate dressing in the autumn, as is the conventional practice.

“By opting for spring application, you are allowing for uptake when the crop is actively growing, maximising the response to P and K.”

Additionally, she said spring K application supported the uptake of nitrogen, increasing the overall efficiency of the crop, leading to higher yields.

This was most effective when applied as a single application: “There is strong evidence emerging that plants can more efficiently utilise nitrogen to build yield when all these nutrients are applied in a single spring NPKS granular product as opposed to being applied separately.”
