A new breed record and an all-breeds Irish record of €52,000 (£47,085) was set at the Simmental premier sale at Roscommon when Clonagh Lucky Explorer sold to the Wood family’s Popes herd, Preston.
The May 2019-born bull consigned by Garrett Behan, Ballyfin, Portlaoise, is by Manor Park Hansome out of national livestock champion Clonagh Dora The Explorer, a Banwy T-Rex-sired cow.
The Behan family also secured the second highest bull price of €6,800 (£6,154) for Clonagh Latin Lover, another May 2019-born son of Manor Park Hansome and out of another national livestock champion, Clonagh Darling Eyes, which also sold to the Woods.
Clonagh Leinster Fabulous, a September 2019-born bull by the same sire and out of the Kilbride Farm Dragoon-sired dam Clonagh Glamorous Fabulous and again from the Behans, sold for €5,900 (£5,340).
Making €5,000 (£4,525) was 11-month-old Lissadell Legacy by Kilbride Farm Dragoon out of Tawley Gretta from Kieran and Paul Mullarkey, Ballinful, Co Sligo. Another bull from the Behans, Clonagh Lexus P, a heterozygous polled bull, again by Hansome, made €4,900 (£4,435).
Achieving the top heifer price of €11,500 (£10,411) was 24-month-old Lissadell Kyrstal Speci by Hillcrest Champion and also out of Tawley Gretta, consigned by the Mullarkeys, Ballinful.
Lissadell Luxury VIP P, an April 2019-born heifer by Auroch Deuter PP from the same home sold for €8,000 (£7,242).
Selling at €7,800 (£7,061) was Fearna Madame Regal, a January 2020-born daughter of Dermotstown Dellboy from Gerry Neenan, Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo.
