Focusing on the people who make agriculture tick, Farming: The Backbone of Britain is a feel-good editorial campaign which has sought to shine a light on farming communities, countryside charities and support networks, and the rich and varied heritage of rural life.

Unapologetically proud of the industry, the campaign is set to be showcased to an even wider audience, thanks to the backing of the Co-op, which has come on board as official partner.

The Backbone of Britain - Get Involved

Why are you proud to farm?

A Word From The Editor

Welcome to this special section of Farmers Guardian, which celebrates the very best our industry has to offer. Farming: The Backbone of Britain, which appears in the magazine every week and also online, has been a huge success since it was introduced in 2018.

Focusing on the people who make agriculture tick, it has sought to shine a light on farming communities, countryside charities and support networks, and the rich and varied heritage of rural life.

Unapologetically proud of the industry, Farming: The Backbone of Britain is set to be showcased to an even wider audience, thanks to the backing of the Co-op, which has this week come on board as official partner.

Using the hashtag #proudtofarm on social media, it is also a great opportunity for our readers to promote the industry in a positive light at such a pivotal time in farming’s history.

See this week’s Farming: The Backbone of Britain feature for the first article in the new partnership.

Co-Op championed a very different way of doing business when we started 175 years ago and our passion for supporting British communities, and the farmers who live and work at the heart of them, is just as strong today as it was in 1844.

A new decade is the perfect time to highlight and celebrate the hard graft, dedication and innovation which is the driving force behind the British agricultural industry, as it continues to set high standards which reach across the globe.

At Co-op, we are proud of the long-term relationships we have forged with farmers and growers up and down the British Isles, all of whom work so hard to produce world-class food, create jobs and support communities. This is against the backdrop of climate change pressure and a shifting political and economic landscape.

We know Co-op has a role to play too which is why we will continue to champion British sourcing, innovative agriculture and sustainable supply chains.

From us to you – thank you for being the Backbone of Britain.
